FAMILY EVENT: ‘Zines with James T. Green

Event on: May 2nd, 2015, 1:00 PM– 4:00 PM

Location: Smart Museum of Art: 5550 S Greenwood Ave., Chicago, IL 60637

Drop by the Smart for free family activities every month!

This Saturday, join contemporary artist James T. Green as he teaches us how to observe our neighborhood, write down our thoughts, and make illustrations for our own mini comic books.

In his earliest artworks, Green produced videos documenting his grandfather’s primarily African-American neighborhood in Joliet and recently he is looking at viral digital networks and the contemporary civil rights movement in his current residency with Arts+Public Life. He continues to look at how our neighborhoods affect our experience in a City. Green’s process mirrors the one by which Romare Bearden viewed and represented Black life in Harlem 40 years earlier in his collage The Stroll, on view in Objects and Voices.

All materials provided. Activities are best for kids ages 4–12, accompanied by an adult.
