TOUR: Curator Tours: Objects and Voices

Guest curators lead back-to-back tours of two projects in the Smart Museum of Art’s 40th anniversary exhibition Objects and Voices on select Thursday evenings and Saturday afternoons.

April 2, 6 pm
Kris Ercums (Curator of Asian Art and Global Contemporary Art, Spencer Museum of Art at the University of Kansas) and Russell Bowman (Former Director, Milwaukee Art Museum) lead tours of their Objects & Voices projects “Between Two Worlds: Asian/American Modern Art” and “Mark Rothko: From Nature to Abstraction.”

April 18, 2 pm
Kenneth Warren (Fairfax M. Cone Distinguished Service Professor in the Department of English and the Center for the Study of Race, Politics, and Culture at the University of Chicago) and Martha Ward (Associate Professor of Art History and Visual Arts at the University of Chicago) lead tours of their Objects & Voices projects “Times and Places That Become Us” and “War Portfolios in Teaching.”

April 25, 2 pm
Alice Kain (Assistant Registrar and Coordinator of Academic Initiatives, Smart Museum of Art) and Angela Steinmetz (former Head Registrar, Smart Museum of Art) lead tours of their Objects & Voices projects “Interaction: British and American Modernist Design” and “Marcel Duchamp: Boite-en-valise.”

May 2, 2 pm
Jie Shi and Claire Jenson (both PhD candidates in Art History at the University of Chicago) lead tours of their Objects & Voices projects “Signed and Sealed: Connoisseurship of Chinese, Japanese, and Korean Paintings” and “Fragments of the Medieval Past.”

May 16, 2 pm
Berthold Hoeckner (Associate Professor of Music at the University of Chicago) and David Wellbery (LeRoy T. and Margaret Deffenbaugh Carlson University Professor of Germanic Studies, Comparative Literature, and Social Thought at the University of Chicago) lead a tour of their Objects & Voices project “Romantic Inter-Mediality.”
