Often called the greatest work in the Western musical canon, the Passion tells the story of the suffering and death of Jesus, in the words of St. Matthew the Evangelist. Bach’s supreme achievement is a profound artistic and intellectual expression of the composer’s faith in God and belief in human striving. We present the work in Rockefeller Memorial Chapel on Passion Sunday, as part of the Chapel’s Holy Week observances. Chicago Chorale performs with an orchestra of period instruments, with Steven Soph as the Evangelist. Learn More.
